Staycations Are Underrated – Do You Agree?
In this wild world of radio, vacations are few and far between. In fact, within my 13-year career, the only actual vacations I've taken, with the exception of a long weekend to Nashville, was to Florida.
The time off is minimal, it has to be taken specific times of the year and when it happens it's either because you're sick or you're doing all of the stuff you've been putting off because you haven't had time to do it. (Shout out to that time I painted every room in my house - yeah, I see you!)
It comes with the job and if we didn't love what we did for a living, then it wouldn't all seem worth it at the end of the day. So, we can be thankful for that because there aren't many people that can say the same.
So, next week - actually, the day following Countryfest, I'm off for the week. People keep asking, "So ya doing anything?" or "Where you headed?" And they look disappointed when I say, "I'm not sure" or "I'm not really heading anywhere but home." Why are you looking so disappointed? Sure, I'd love to go to Florida again, or hit the road to Nashville but financially this makes the most sense right now. Plus, sometimes it's fun to just enjoy what's surrounding us.
How many times have you had the chance to sit on your back porch or deck and just enjoy the summertime so far? I can't really say that I have yet. So, I'm looking forward to it! I've also heard so many good things about Record Archive that's in Rochester. In fact I was told "You must go, you'd love it." So, that's a possibility. I also thought a Valley Cats game might be fun and hitting up my Nana's pool since I never get to do that these days.
I know it seems like so little, yet honestly, so relaxing at the same time. Some people will go and take these elaborate vacations and experience a lot of cool things, sure, but they come back more tired then before. I couldn't even imagine that right now! Give me a pillow and my lounge chair and throw me in the sun! Sounds like pure heaven!
