SomeBODY Is Gonna Love This Mega-Meme’d Band Coming To Upstate
They might be the most meme’d musical act of all-time – right up there with Rick Astley and Nickleback. They have been heard millions of times on both TikTok and 90s alternative radio. They provide the soundtrack to the “Shrek is Life, Shrek is Love” movement.
Now they’re coming to the Capital Region and, in their words, they promise to "deliver the best live show you’ll see in 2022. And here’s why: Ammunition. [We have] the best songs. And more of them than any of our friendly competitors. Period."
They are Smash Mouth.
Formed in 1994, the band rose to alternative rock stardom with their very first single “Walkin’ on the Sun” and never looked back. Their true crowning achievement remains their contribution to the 2001 Dreamworks film Shrek, with the iconic “All-Star” kicking the movie off as the titular ogre aggressively leaves his own outhouse.
The Millennial and Gen Z darlings are on the road again with a new formation. The group is touring for the first time without their original lead singer Steve Harwell. Harwell left the band for “physical and mental health” issues after two public appearances that had people saying “hey now.”
Harwell made controversial COVID remarks while performing at the 2021 Sturgis motorcycle rally and another incident here in New York at Bethel’s Big Sip Festival where he threatened to murder an audience member’s entire family on stage. Zach Goode was named Harwell’s replacement in March. Vocally, it’s a pretty great match.
