Part Damaged Clifton Park Bridge To Be Removed For Temporary Span
A portion of the Sitterly Road bridge over the Northway will need to be replaced after being hit last week.
Seeing the photos and driving under this overpass each day, it is still hard to believe the damage it sustained after being struck by lift being carried by a truck last week. Now instead of being just repaired, a span of the bridge will need to be replaced.
According to the Daily Gazette, this Saturday starting at 8pm until midday Sunday the southbound lanes of the Northway will be closed so the damaged span of the bridge can be removed. A temporary span will soon go in so vehicles can resume using the overpass while the bridge is permanently repaired.
Now if you are unfamiliar with the overpass or have not seen the damage, you can see the hit the structure took in photos here. Looking at photos and that lift across the road, drivers in the area that morning are super fortunate no one was hurt. I can imagine anyone in the vicinity of that lift hitting the bridge witnessed a scary sight, and thankfully no one was in its path. The Daily Gazette says the driver of the truck was also uninjured and was ticketed for the incident. There is no timeline on when construction of the new span may be complete.
