NY Thruway Tollbooths One Step Closer To Being Eliminated
Getting on and off the New York Thruway will become a much smoother experience in the not so distant future.
It is one of the most aggravating parts of travelling the on the New York Thruway: stopping to pay tolls. And while the annoyance of paying a toll will remain, at least it won't slow up your Thruway travel times in the future.
According to a Time Union story, the Thruway authority has taken the next step in eliminating toll booths by choosing Cashless Tolling Constructors LLC to put in a new 'cashless tolling' system. If you travel on the Massachusetts Turnpike at all, you may have noticed over the last couple years they eliminated toll booths and now have a cashless system in place to collect tolls. The Times Union says the new Thruway toll setup will be similar and should be in place sometime in 2020 and tolls we be collected with the Ez-Pass, or a photo will be taken of your license plate and you will be billed.
So I guess this is good new and bad news. The good news is all the old toll booths will be gone and your time on the Thruway won't be slowed up going through a toll. The bad news is, it is still pretty annoying to be paying tolls, right? I guess that is still one of the extra perks of travelling the beautiful backroads of Upstate New York - you don;t have to pay for the views!
