New York’s Yankee Stadium Was Literally Falling Apart Yesterday [VIRAL VIDEO]
For concession stand workers, and a few hungry fans, things went from bad to worse at Yankee Stadium in The Bronx last night.
On the playing surface, the situation was already bad enough. The New York Yankees were trailing the Houston Astros, 3-0, in the American League Championship Series. The team was hearing boos from their fans at every turn, with players such as Josh Donaldson and Matt Carpenter experiencing the jeers more than most.
Then, fuel was added to the metaphorical fire, when a real fire broke out in a concession stand.
Video Shows Grease Fire at Yankee Stadium Concession Stand; Fans React
A video began circulating online yesterday during Game 4 of the ALCS between New York and Houston at Yankee Stadium. The video was taken by investigative reporter Hunter Walker, who posted it on his Twitter account.
Here's the original video:
In a subsequent tweet, Walker explained that the video is depicting a grease fire that had been started in a Yankee Stadium concession stand.
The fire had triggered sprinklers above the grill, which is the translucent stream that you can see in the video. The workers were quick to hop over the counter and evacuate the situation, but stood around to watch in confusion as the fire continued. All of this was happening with tens of thousands of fans in the stadium, some of whom waited around to watch the spectacle unfold.
Naturally, Yankees' fans took to Twitter to respond to the scene, while also taking shots at the New York franchise in the process:
Of course, the most important thing is that all of those involved got away from the fire safely, which they did.
With that knowledge in mind, can we all admit that this whole scene is kind of amusing? The workers were quick to jump over the counter and get out of the way of the blaze, but moved a few feet away and continued to watch it. Fans were so bored by the baseball game, that they elected to approach the fire and watch alongside the workers.
All of this is brought together by the frustration of Yankees' fans, which was shared in the comments you see above, as well as hundreds of others on Twitter and other social media platforms.
The cliche of the day: when it rains, it pours. A grease fire at Yankee Stadium last night is a prime example of that.
