NOAA Reveals Winter Weather Outlook For 2024-25

Every year the NOAA predicts the precipitation and temperature outlooks in 3 month increments for each season and just revealed its outlook for December 2024 through February 2025. So what are forecasters predicting for the season ahead in Upstate New York and the northeast? If big snow is what you want, you may be underwhelmed.

As far as precipitation, NOAA models are predicting Upstate New York should be right on course with seasonal averages. So if the moisture is there, what does that mean as far as snow versus rain? The NOAA models say "...warmer-than-average temperatures are favored..." in New York and the northeast in general.

Now, this does not necessarily mean will will not see big snow in Upstate New York, but the conditions may not be favorable for it to happen. If the last couple of mild winters here are any indicator, we can probably expect more snow, sleet, and freezing rain than the huge snow falls we are used too. That said, ALOT can change between now and winter!
