Nearly 200,000 Smoke Detectors Recalled
There is one main purpose of a smoke alarm and there is one on the market that isn't doing its job. This smoke detector is being recalled. According to News 10 ABC, the Universal Security Instruments has recalled one hundred eighty thousand smoke detectors because they won't sound off to alert consumers of a fire.
These battery-powered smoke alarms may have a misaligned internal switch that will cause the alarms to not activate in a manner to sound an alert in the case of a fire. The recall is for the Universal Security Instruments alarms with the model numbers of MI3050S and MI3050SB and with date codes between 2015JAN19 through 2016JUL11.
You can check your own detector by pressing the test button to see if it activates. If the alarm does go off then no action is required. If it does not go off, you should immediately contact the company to receive a replacement.
