Country star Mindy McCready was laid to rest during a service in her hometown of Fort Myers, Fla. on Tuesday (Feb. 26), nine days after the troubled singer took her own life with a single gunshot wound to the head.

People magazine reports that 400 mourners attended the service at Crossroads Baptist Church, where the singer's mother, Gayle Inge, greeted them with a handshake and a program containing a color photograph of her departed daughter. A large portrait of McCready hung on the stage, while her recordings of 'Ten Thousand Angels' and 'I'm Still Here' were among the musical selections for the memorial.

The singer's stepfather Michael Inge performed the Bobby Helms song 'You Are My Special Angel' at the service. McCready's pallbearers included her three brothers,  Timothy, Joshua and Skyler.

"Mindy adored her two children. She wanted them to know that. Through much agony and pain, she went to heaven," Gayle Inge told the mourners. "She is no longer sick. She is healed. Thank you for all who are here. Please pray for those boys. No matter what, she will always be my little girl, sitting in her car seat, singing into a hairbrush. The world was her stage."

Another memorial for her professional colleagues will be held in Nashville in March. Her family requests that donations be made to the Mindy McCready Children's Trust, c/o John Ammons, Edison National Bank, 13000 S. Cleveland Ave., Ft. Myers, FL 33907 in lieu of flowers.
