LoCash Rock New Tunes, ’80s Covers at the 2015 Taste of Country Music Festival
The air was hazy and humid when LoCash took the stage at the 2015 Taste of Country Music Festival on Friday (June 12), but that didn't slow Preston Brust and Chris Lucas — or the audience — down one bit.
The duo took the stage to the sounds of their band riffing on Alice in Chain's "Man in the Box," then launched seamlessly into their own "C.O.U.N.T.R.Y." "Here Comes Summer" — an appropriate choice for upstate New York in mid-June — followed, as the guys roamed the stage and worked the crowd. "I Know Somebody," one of LoCash's newer tunes, got fans clapping along, but they really started singing along to "Drunk Drunk," a song that the guys admitted they "got real drunk" before writing.
"You guys are just one big party out here," they said from stage. "I love it!"
LoCash included a few 'covers' in their set as well: Tim McGraw's "Truck Yeah," a Top 10 hit that they wrote with Chris Janson and Danny Myrick; Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar on Me," which they played in the middle of "Hey Hey Hey;" and ZZ Top's "Tush." They also sang a few lines of Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds," then segued into Bruno Mars' "The Lazy Song."
According to LoCash, New York State is the duo's best-selling market, and the guys took a few minutes during their hour-long set to thank the audience. "Nobody understands how many country music fans we got in New York, but we understand you ..." they said, adding (somewhat) sarcastically, "With that said, go ahead and download 25 singles."
The lone slower moment in LoCash's set came when they played "Shipwrecked." The noted that the tune will be their next single.
“A lot of people, when they’re interviewing us, they’ll ask a question, like a fun question, and usually the fun question is always the same: ‘If you’re shipwrecked on an island, what’s the one thing you have to have?’” Brust says to explain the song's genesis. “And so, I sat down at the piano, and I said, ‘You know what, here’s what I’ve gotta have.’ And you’ve gotta hear the song to find out, but it’s really cool. It’s a really cool song.”
LoCash ended their set with a brand-new song, "What We Got," and their current single, "I Love This Life," the latter of which inspired a "U.S.A! U.S.A!" chant.
