Don’t Believe the Chick-Fil-A Hype: Saratoga Chicken Sandwich Tops ‘Em All

Forget Popeye's and Chick-Fil-A. The Capital Region's best chicken sandwich you can only get from a local restaurant.

I gotta say, a few years ago I kind of got caught up in the big chicken sandwich battle. I tried the Popeye's sandwich and it's great, and in the past I've had Chick-Fil-A's which is solid too.

But while recently getting caught up again in the hoopla around Chick-Fil-A finally coming to the area, I remembered where the best chicken sandwich actually lives in the Capital Region: Hattie's Chicken Shack in the Wilton Plaza in front of the Wilton Mall on Route 50. Hattie's Restaurant in downtown Saratoga Springs is obviously the legendary and more well know Hattie's location, but having kids, the Wilton location is a little easier for us to access - and just as delightful. So this weekend, I took the family for lunch and indulged.

Now as you see in the photo and video above, the Hattie's Chicken Shack sandwich is impressive in stature. I got the 'Big Daddy' with 2 chicken thighs (They also have a junior with 1 thigh), and the bun is slathered with an amazing coleslaw. Just as impressive as it's size is the flavor this sandwich delivers. The chicken is crispy on the outside, juicy within and the slaw adds a punch. If you are feeling a little more adventurous, they also have a Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich. This one is also awesome, and way more flavorful and way hotter than the competition.

So I say, why go to Popeye's or Chick-Fil-A when you can go local? Enjoy!
