NY Taylor Swift Fans React As Ticketmaster Cancels Ticket Sales

The word “unprecedented” has been thrown around a lot in the last three years. Granted, some of that usage is correct: a worldwide lockdown, for example; nobody saw that coming. But ticket demand being high for arguably the most popular recording artist in the world? That’s pretty precedented.

If you were hoping to pick up Taylor Swift tickets for her three Eras Tour performances at MetLife Stadium today, you won’t – at least not from Ticketmaster. The ticket giant canceled the general public on-sale after a very messy Verified Fan presale wiped out all supply.

This comes days after New York Swifties spent hours waiting in digital queues trying to score pre-sale tickets under Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program to varying degrees of success. Being a Verified Fan is supposed to beat out scalpers and bots by allowing those that sign up in advance a certain amount of tickets per Ticketmaster account.

Understandably, New York's Taylor fans had a lot to say.

Despite the odds and technological nightmare, some Taylor fans were victorious and satisfied.

Some got tickets but were left feeling wronged by Ticketmaster’s high surge pricing.

And unfortunately many of Taylor’s New York fans were left out in the cold.

This is the second ticket release to cause major controversy in the last six months, after a much-maligned on sale for Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band’s 2023 tour. New York’s US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez again took the opportunity to speak out against Ticketmaster and call for more regulation.

Tickets for Taylor’s MetLife Stadium shows are now going being resold on sites like StubHub and VividSeats at a premium, cashing in on unfortunate fans. The cheapest of the three New Jersey dates I saw was $775 for nosebleed seats on Sunday May 28, with floor seats going for $2000+.

Ticketmaster did briefly publish an official statement called “The Taylor Swift On Sale Explained” on Thursday, but it had been removed from the site as of Friday morning.
