This New York Lake Is The Deepest In The State, Did You Know?

Wednesday June 21st is the first day of summer and the temperatures around New York State this week are expected to be right around 80 degrees! Time to head to one of our more than 7,600 lakes, take a dip and launch the boat!

To find the deepest lake in the United States you would have to go all the way across the country to Crater Lake, also known as "lake majesty", in Oregon. This lake is 1,943 feet deep and is filled solely by snow and rainfall.

According to the World Atlas, Lake Erie is the biggest lake in New York State at 9910 square miles with Lake Ontario second at 7340 square miles BUT Oneida Lake is the biggest lake completely within New York at 80 square miles. As big as that is, it is not the deepest.

The deepest lake in New York State, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), is Seneca Lake at a maximum depth of 618 feet. Seneca Lake is also the State's second largest lake with 43,393 acres. To realize just how deep that is check this out;
