Shots Fired? New York State Fair Closes Early On Sunday
The Great New York State Fair in Syracuse has had it's ups and downs for the 2024 season so far. Even though attendance is down this year compared to 2023, more than 83,000 people attended the fair on Day 4 and over 700,000 have attended with 1 day to go. Will Sunday's incident keep folks away from the last day of the fair?
On Sunday September 1st, day 12 of the New York State Fair, there were reports of violence and shots fired which resulted in the fair closing early. Here's what we know.
After consulting with law enforcement, the decision was made to close The Fair early on Sunday night out of an abundance of caution after New York State Police received reports of violence within The Fairgrounds. - Official statement from New York State Fair officials
On Sunday September 1st at approximately 8:38pm, according to the New York State Police Facebook page, Troopers received a call of possible shots fired within the fairgrounds between the midway and the Rick Ross concert at Suburban Park. Moments later there was a second report of shots fired.
New York State Police responded to both calls of shots fired and determined there was no evidence of shots fired or anyone being injured. Troopers consulted with Fair officials and the decision was made to close the Fair early on Sunday evening. Troopers continue to investigate the false reports.
