This Is the Exact Time Daylight Saving Ends In New York, Or Is It?
Will New Yorkers turn the clocks back one hour this fall? As of now, yes, but that could change. The 2026 daylight saving time period started on March 8th and is scheduled to end on November 1st, but will it end?
Many American are pushing for more daylight, while others argue to keep the old 'Spring forward, fall behind' motto in place. What is the latest on this debate? How much difference would the change make? Let's take a look.

The United States House passed the Sunshine Protection Act to make daylight saving time permanent, but the bill still requires Senate approval and the president's signature before it can become law.
If this becomes law, New Yorkers would no longer have the biannual clock changing we have now. This would give us brighter afternoon and evening hours during active times. Some say this would also help retail, and tourism in the Empire State.
If the Sunshine Protection Act does not become law, we will be turning our clocks back 1 hour on Sunday November 1, 2026. This would mark the time of sunset as 4:47pm. Today, for example, sunset will be at 8:12pm.

Those opposed to the change argue that we would have very late winter sunrises. Let's say sunrise on February 1st is 7:30a. With this change sunrise in New York could be as late as 8:30a.
