A few months after President Joe Biden's visit to the IBM facility in Poughkeepsie, another member of the Biden family will be making their way up to Upstate New York in January. It won't be the President himself, but rather his First Lady, who is set to visit historic Fort Drum.

While on-location in the Empire State, she will speak with military families on how their country can help the service member in their families moving forward.

First Lady Jill Biden Set for Visit to Upstate NY on Monday

A story from Syracuse.com detailed the upcoming itinerary for First Lady Jill Biden, wife of U.S. President Joe Biden, who is set to travel to Upstate New York on Monday, January 30th.

First Lady Biden will be visiting Fort Drum, located just outside Watertown, New York, along with Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks as part of her Joining Forces initiative.

The initiative was founded by a previous First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, in conjunction with then-Second Lady Biden back in 2011, with the goal of supporting the families, caregivers, and survivors of members of the United States Armed Forces.

With that in mind, Biden will be speaking with families of military members about improving job opportunities for those who fit that category, and in theory, what the United States government can do to make those jobs more easily attainable.

Fort Drum, where the meetings will be held, was originally named Pine Camp when it was first used for military training, which dates back as early as 1908. Following the conclusion of World War II, Pine Camp was re-named Camp Drum in 1951, named after Lieutenant General Hugh A. Drum, a name that was then changed from Camp to Fort Drum in 1974.

It is currently the home of the 10th Mountain Division, a light infantry division of the United States Army.

I applaud any effort to make the lives of military personnel and veterans, and their families, easier. These people risk their lives to protect our country and the millions of citizens who call it home, and the more that we can do to support their efforts, the better off our entire population will be.

Here's hoping First Lady Biden's visit to Upstate New York will help continue that conversation, and help bring about positive change in the near future.
