WATCH: Comedian Takes Credit for Buffalo Bills’ Touchdown Celebration

It took the Buffalo Bills less than five minutes to score their first touchdown against the Miami Dolphins. The TD, which was hauled in by WR Gabe Davis on a pass from QB Josh Allen, represented the first seven points of what would become a 48-20 trouncing by the Bills.

After scoring the touchdown, Davis made a subtle gesture to the camera as part of his celebration, one which left us wondering: why did he do that, and what does it mean?

The answer to the first part of the question was revealed earlier this week: comedian Shane Gillis told him to.

Comedian Shane Gillis Takes Credit for Buffalo Bills' Touchdown Celebration

In case you missed Gabe Davis' touchdown (to be fair, there were a lot of Bills' TDs on Sunday), here's a look at the replay:

That's where comedian Shane Gillis comes into the picture. Before becoming a stand-up comedian, Gillis had a prominent football career, playing as an offensive tackle. Gillis played football at the collegiate level with both Army West Point and Elon, before pivoting to his current career in comedy.

On a recent podcast appearance, Gillis had this to say about the Buffalo Bills, Gabe Davis, and the inspiration behind his unique touchdown celebration:

This isn't the first time that we've heard about comedians having connections to the Bills, and particularly, Gabe Davis. Comedian Bert Kreischer told The Drive with Charlie and Dan last year that Davis had worn custom cleats representing Kreischer's podcast with Tom Segura, 2 Bears 1 Cave.

Not for nothing, but Davis scored four touchdowns while wearing Kreischer's custom cleats. Add that performance to his game this past weekend, where he represented comedian Shane Gillis and scored a touchdown, and all of a sudden, Davis is establishing a trend.
