It was a very strange day at Buffalo Bills' mandatory minicamp.

First, Bills' head coach Sean McDermott told the media that Stefon Diggs, the team's top wide receiver and a favorite target for QB Josh Allen, was not at minicamp. McDermott expressed concern about this, which seemed justified given the player's recent history.

Then, seemingly out of thin air, Diggs was "spotted" at camp, and everything appeared to be running smoothly, according to his agent.

Yet another wrinkle arose, as Allen made comments about Diggs' status to the media, adding further speculation about where he was, and why. Fans are becoming increasingly concerned about this situation, and that's exactly how they should be feeling right now.

Bills' McDermott Was Right: We Should Be Concerned About Stefon Diggs

An article from ESPN earlier today broke down bizarre comments made by Buffalo Bills' personnel regarding the status of their star wide receiver, Stefon Diggs, at the team's mandatory minicamp.

This whole ordeal began with comments from Bills' coach Sean McDermott, who stated he was very concerned about Stefon Diggs' lack of attendance. From what we knew at that point, it appeared as though the wide receiver wasn't at camp at all.

Then, as if it was dropped from the heavens, this happened:

"The Bills and Diggs' agent, Adisa Bakari, who spoke with ESPN's Adam Schefter, said that Diggs was in the building Monday and was present Tuesday morning. Bakari said that Diggs took his physical, met with McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane over the past two days, and "will be there for the entirety of the minicamp." - ESPN

So, first, Diggs was nowhere to be seen at camp, but now, he was present and in good spirits the entire time? I wasn't buying it, and fans weren't either.

Then, the third act of the play happened, as Josh Allen offered some much-needed context during his media availability. Here's what he said:

"I think as an organization, maybe not communicating the right way with everything," Allen also said. "So again, just trying to talk and listen at the same time and hear him out. And like I said, just try to move this forward as quickly and as respectfully as possible." - Josh Allen, via ESPN

Here are three more snippets that he provided the media:

  1. "[incorporating him] a little bit better in what we're doing here"
  2. "getting him the ball or getting more involved in the game plan"
  3. There's things that I could do better to help out"

Allow me to translate: Diggs wasn't happy at the end of the season, and he's still not thrilled now.

Now, keep this in-mind: Diggs and Allen were spotted having a heated argument on the sidelines during their Divisional Round loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last season. It was later said that Diggs was frustrated about "not being targeted enough" during the game, especially when it came to the most important plays.

For the record, Diggs was targeted a team-high 10 times, catching four passes.

Then, during the course of the offseason, Diggs made multiple illusions on social media that he may have wanted to be traded. Fans even started to believe that he would be traded to the Dallas Cowboys in order to play with his brother, cornerback Trevon Diggs.

The point here is this: it's seemed as though Stefon Diggs hasn't been completely happy in Buffalo for some time now. There's still plenty of time during the offseason for Diggs, Allen and the coaching staff to mend fences, but it's less than ideal that these stories are popping up this early into minicamp.

For now, we'll have to wait and see if Diggs is back on the field tomorrow, or not.
