Fans Roast Former New York Giants’ Star for Apparent Lie on ‘Hard Knocks’

On Tuesday night, HBO released Episode 2 of Hard Knocks - Offseason, their football documentary series featuring the New York Giants.

As part of the second episode, the show's producers began to show video from the most pivotal point of New York's offseason: their contract negotiation with running back Saquon Barkley.

More specifically, HBO showed a conversation between Barkley and Giants' GM Joe Schoen that took place just days before free agency began.

This scene, in which Schoen asks Barkley to give him a chance to match any contract offer he received, raised the eyebrows of many Giants' fans.

For those fans, the scene called to mind a post on X that was shared by Barkley back in early May:

In this post, Barkley clearly states that the Giants never presented him with a contract offer to return. Now, watch the teaser that HBO aired for Episode 3 of the season, and watch it closely:

At the six-second mark, Schoen is captured saying that if he offered a 3-year, $37.5M deal with $25M guaranteed, Barkley would be a Giant. This statement by Schoen does not completely clear up the confusion, as it is still technically possible that New York didn't the deal that Schoen mentioned in the clip.

The evidence was starting to stack up against Barkley, however, and Giants' fans were quick to voice their displeasure with their former star:
