New York Ranked Among Most Exhausted States
If you live in New York State and feel more tired than usual lately, new research suggests that you are not the only one. They found that New York started 2026 with some of the lowest energy levels in the country.
How Researchers Measured Exhaustion
The study looked at Google searches people made during January. Trouble sleeping, feeling burned out, lack of focus, poor diet, and extreme tiredness were all tracked. Researchers used around 100 different search terms linked to fatigue to build what they call an Exhaustion Index.
Where New York Landed
New York tied for the third most exhausted state, behind (surprisingly) Utah and California. One major factor appears to be mental strain. New York ranked third nationwide for burnout and concentration related searches. Busy schedules, work demands, and everyday stress may be playing a big role.

Sleep Struggles Are Showing Up Too
The state ranked fourth for sleep related fatigue signals. Searches about insomnia, rest problems, and difficulty recovering overnight suggest many people are not getting the rest they need.
Nutrition And Energy Ups And Downs
New York ranked fifth for nutrition related fatigue. That includes searches tied to diet, energy crashes, and inconsistent eating habits. When fuel is off, energy often follows.
Physical Fatigue Was Less Of A Factor
Surprisingly, physical exhaustion came in lower at tenth place. That suggests mental stress, sleep problems, and lifestyle pressures may be affecting energy more than physical activity.
A Simple Reminder Worth Keeping
If you have been feeling tired or stressed out, it might help to check in on sleep, nutrition, and stress levels. Small changes can make a bigger difference than you expect. If exhaustion sticks around, try talking with a professional.
