Here’s How Many Guns TSA Seized At Airports In New York State Last Year
The number of guns the Transportation Security Administration confiscated at airports in New York increased in 2022. TSA officers stopped 23 handguns at New York airports outside of NYC last year. TSA officers stopped 39 handguns at NYC area airport checkpoints in 2022.
In 2021, they caught 19 in upstate airports and 26 in the NYC area. The guns were discovered by TSA officers during screenings of carry-on luggage at airport security checkpoints.
Nationwide, TSA officers found 6,542 firearms at security checkpoints in 2022, which was up from the 5,972 detected in 2021. Bart R. Johnson, TSA Federal Security Director for Upstate New York, said,
I commend the officers who have continued to perform their security duties at the highest level. Our officers remain vigilant and focused on their mission to ensure that travelers get to their destinations safely.

You can actually travel with a firearm, but you have to follow TSA guidelines,
You may transport unloaded firearms in a locked hard-sided container as checked baggage only. Declare the firearm and/or ammunition to the airline when checking your bag at the ticket counter. The container must completely secure the firearm from being accessed. Locked cases that can be easily opened are not permitted.
