Former New York Giants’ Advice May Have Sank Aaron Rodgers
It was a wild weekend of Divisional NFL Playoffs. With each game being decided by one score, you never know what could have made the difference in one game from the next. However, New York Giants fans can relish in the possibility that one of their own former heroes may have helped knock Aaron Rodgers out of the playoffs.
According to a cool article by Paul Schwartz in the New York Post, Paul's New York Giants based 'Blue Rush' podcast partner, former Giants' kicker Lawrence Tynes got a call from a friend for some advice. Schwartz said that earlier this week on Tuesday, Tynes received a call from a friend that happened to be Robbie Gould, the kicker for the 49ers. Gould wanted to pick the brain of the former Giants place kicker.

What would make a current NFL kicker call a former kicker that hasn't played in a decade? Let's just say, some solid experience and success. As, Paul put it, "It was 14 years ago that Tynes, also in arctic Green Bay, sent the Giants to the Super Bowl with a 47-yard field goal in overtime to beat the Packers 23-20 in what was dubbed Ice Bowl II. Tynes is the only kicker in NFL history with two playoff game-winning overtime field goals. Four years after he nailed his career-defining kick, he drilled a 31-yarder in San Francisco in the NFC title game to eliminate the 49ers and put the Giants into Super Bowl XLVI."
What was the gist of the conversation between Tynes and Gould? Well, Tynes told Paul Schwartz that they talked “Mainly mental preparation." Whatever Tynes told Gould certainly didn't hurt. Gould nailed a 45-yard game winning field goal as time ran out on Saturday. The frozen field goal at an arctic Lambeau Field eliminated Aaron Rodgers and the Packers with a 13-10 49ers victory. Yes, Giants fans can't relish a playoff victory but some love having a hand in sending Mr. Rodgers packing for another off-season.
