ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Bruce Arians has unexpectedly stepped down as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ariens is the skipper that guided the team to its second Super Bowl title with Tom Brady at the helm. The 69-year-old says is not related to health according to the report. Arians will move to the Bucs front office

In a statement issued by the team, Arians said, "This team is in a much better place than it was three years ago due to Jason’s great work and the Glazer family’s commitment to winning. I want to focus on what I can give back to this incredible game that has provided so much for me and my family."

So who was the Tampa Bay Bucs choice to replace the Super Bowl winning coach? Well, of course, former New York Jets head coach, Todd Bowles. Bowles served as Arians' defensive coordinator, and won a Super Bowl, after being fired by the Jets following the 2018 season.

Bowles went 10-6 in his first season in 2015 with the Jets. Gang Green just had to beat the pre-Josh Allen Bills to go to the playoffs in the last game of the season. The Jets of course lost and Bowles never won more than 5 games any of the next 3 seasons.

The 58-year-old said in a statement, “I am appreciative of the Glazer family and Jason Licht for having faith in me to take on this role, and to Coach Arians for his support and guidance over the past four decades. Tampa has become home for my family, and we are excited to remain part of this community for years to come. ... I am eager to get started with our players, coaching staff, and front office in preparation for the 2022 season.”

Why did Bruce Arians wait until March 30th to step down? "I wanted to ensure when I walked away that Todd Bowles would have the best opportunity to succeed," he said. Well, I guess Tom Brady coming back may help with that. I always liked Todd Bowles. He never had the players in New York. Now he does.
