Glen Falls Father Faces Felony Charges Over Newborn’s Violent Death
There is some really sad news coming out of Glens Falls, New York. A 19-year-old father is facing felony charges for assaulting his newborn, the child has now died.
According to News 10 police records, 19-year-old Tyler A. Zaugg is facing felony charges for an incident that occurred on July 4. He is accused of beating his infant son in the face and torso.
Tyler‘s Zaugg was allegedly home along with his seven-week-old son when he called his girlfriend, Delaney Locke because their child was unresponsive. Mr. Zaugg allegedly told the child’s mother that the child slipped under the water as he was bathing him.
Emergency equipment responded to the apartment at Broad Street Commons around 6:00 p.m. and transported the unresponsive infant to the Glens Falls Hospital. The baby sustained several cracked ribs and was suffering from brain injuries.
Because the baby had sustained such severe life-threatening injuries, he was transported to the Albany Medical Center Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
Officers investigating the incident determined that Mr. Zaugg was responsible for the child's injuries. He was initially arrested and charged with one count of first-degree Assault (Felony), two counts of second-degree Assault (Misdemeanor), and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Misdemeanor). More charges are expected to be filed against him.
On Friday, July 9, he was arraigned in Warren County Court. Judge Robert Smith originally set his bail at $100,000 cash or $300,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 22. Because the child died after Mr. Zaugg’s arraignment, it is unclear if his bail will be modified.
