Craig Morgan Supports Law Enforcement With Viral Video [Watch]
Craig Morgan took to the streets of his hometown to show his support of local law enforcement, and to spread some holiday good will.
The country star and former soldier used to be a sheriff's deputy in his hometown of Dickson, Tenn., and he joined with the Dickson County Sheriff's Department just before Christmas to hand out gift cards to some grateful residents, just in time for the holidays.
"Lately there's been a lot of negative publicity for law enforcement because of a couple of incidents in the news," he says in the video above, which he posted to Facebook on Christmas Eve.
"I've had the great fortune of working in law enforcement, and still get to work with the sheriff's department," he adds. "One of the things that our sheriff's department does is they spend a lot of time trying to make sure the public understands their role, and make sure that they understand that they're there to help, not to do bad things."
Morgan spoke to Chief Deputy Jerone Holt, who agreed that giving out gift cards would be a great community outreach. So the 'We'll Come Back Around' singer donned a uniform to join Holt on the streets of Dickson, surprising some locals with gift cards to help them finish out their Christmas shopping.
The pair surprised a number of residents with gift cards for $100, as well as a lesson in proper community relations. Morgan ended the video with the simple message, "A huge thanks to all of the law enforcement for all they do every day to serve our communities and protect our lives."
The video of the pair spreading Christmas cheer quickly went viral and has amassed more than 1.5 million views since Christmas Eve.
