Every weekday, around 11:30am, we test your knowledge of Country Trivia on GNA 107.7.  Today, we honor the group that originally recorded the Rascal Flatts' hit 'Bless The Broken Road.'

Jeff Hanna of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band co-wrote 'Bless The Broken Road' in 1994.  The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band recorded their own version of the song first, then co-writer Marcus Hummon did his own version in 1995.  Yet again the song was not a radio hit. Artist Melodie Crittenden also tried recording a version of the song that actually charted at No. 42 on the Billboard Singles Charts. But again, the little love song didn't make it.

In 2004, 10 years after the song was introduced, the lyrics found the perfect voice to make it a hit. Led by Gary Levox, Rascal Flatts hit No. 1 for five weeks with their slick version of the power ballad, and instantly turned into a wedding classic.

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band will join Asleep at the Wheel at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on Thursday, September 27, 2012.  Click Here for more info and other fall concerts coming to the Albany Area.
