Answer: The story of 'Ol' Red' was composed by James Bohan, Don Goodman and Mark Sherrill. The song was originally cut by George Jones for his 1990 album 'You Oughta Be Here With Me.' Then, in 1993 Kenny Rogers released a version from his album 'If Only My Heart Had A Voice.' In 2002, Blake Shelton released the song on Warner Brothers Records, and although it did not reach the top 10, it's a Blake Shelton fan favorite.

In the '90s, Rogers used the song quite frequently in his concert set list. However, he cut back performing the song after Blake Shelton released his version to Country radio.
