Blake Shelton Says ‘You Just Have to Accept’ Gossip
Blake Shelton is no stranger to living in the limelight. Rumors have been circling around him and former wife Miranda Lambert since way before they divorced last summer, and now even more so since his new relationship with Gwen Stefani went public this past November.
But he recently said he knows that's part of the deal of being a superstar.
“You just have to accept it and go, ‘Man, people know the ins and outs, and what they don’t [know], they make up,'” Shelton shared with reporters (quote via the Boot). “You just have to accept it and know they’re going to talk about it. And that’s okay"
Beyond accepting the fact that gossip happens, Shelton admits he even understands all the hoopla.
“I think about celebrities I know of, and I talk about them; I wonder about them. The people I read about and see in movies or whatever … I do it, too,” he said. “It makes sense that it happens. It just is what it is.”
Shelton says he feels that his life is under public scrutiny more so than some other county stars, probably due to his role on The Voice.
“I can’t think of anybody that it’s ever happened as much to before, but I think it’s because of my television side of what I do; it just kind of brings a lot of that to the table," he points out. "My life is crazy; I’ll be the first to tell you that. I mean, it makes sense that they’d report on me, and it has been insane."
The "She's Got a Way With Words" singer claims that despite all the rumors, he doesn't have anything to hide and even invites reporters to do their best to find some dirt.
"I walk out of my house with my head held high every day. I don’t have any land mines I have to avoid or anything. I’m not ashamed of anything," he said. "So the fact that they want to report on my life — dig into it. Get after it. Just have a field day. See what you can dig up … They can’t find anything really about me, so hearing crazy stuff; that part of it is what it is. I don’t know what you can really do about it, just know that it’s a part of it."
Though he is accepting of the rumor mill surrounding him, Shelton is taking action against the publishers of InTouch Weekly. He's suing for damages after the tabloid published an unsubstantiated report claiming that Shelton went to rehab for alcohol abuse.
