After 11 yrs Family Owned Italian Restaurant in Guilderland to Close
Every few days it seems that we learn of another restaurant in the Capital Region that is closing for good. This time it's a well-known family-owned Italian restaurant in Guilderland.
Which Italian Restaurant is Closing?
Cafe Calabria which is located at 1736 Western Avenue in Guilderland has been at that location for the last eleven years. The restaurant served authentic Italian dishes from Calabria, Italy.
How Was Cafe Calabria Started?
Cafe Calabria was founded by Chef Michael Futia who was just twenty-three years, his father, Chef Frank, his mom Rosanna, his brothers Chef Gianfranco and Mimmo, and his sisters Sandra and Marlena.
According to Cafe Calabria's Facebook page on January 10th, they made the announcement that they would be closing. They made their decision based on a number of factors.
Danielle Futia said in the Facebook post:
I would also like to thank each of you for joining us on here daily. From our weekly specials to everybody's favorite contests, we were able to connect on another level. Nine years ago, Mike made me my first meal and since then, sharing and promoting his and Gianfranco's culinary magic has been my easiest job.
When Will Cafe Calabria Close its Doors?
The family announced that Cafe Calabria will have its final dinner service on Saturday, January 28th. To make a reservation, call 518.456.5665.
