Pier 1 Imports was once a thriving home furnishings retail store with locations all over the country. The Capital Region had 3 locations, Albany, Wilton and this particular location that we'll take a look at in Clifton Park.

In February 2020, just before the pandemic, Pier 1 filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Shortly after all stores were shut down. Some were able to reopen, but eventually all 540 stores nationwide closed their doors for good.

The Clifton Park store was located at a very heavy traffic area, right off Northway Exit 9 and adjacent to Clifton Park Center Mall.

Here's a shot of the store from back in busier times (2018 to be exact).

Although abandoned now, this area of town is probably about to see an increase in traffic like it hasn't seen in years. Slated to take over this piece of land will be the Capital Region's first (non-airport) Chick-fil-A location.

As of June 2022, the Pier 1 building still stands, but sits empty. When Chick-fil-A received approval to build from the Clifton Park Planning Board, they said they anticipate an opening date targeted in the fall of 2022.

These photos and video were taken back in 2021, several months to a year after the store had closed for good. As you can see, very little was left inside - a couple kiosks, some shelving, and (what looks like) a computer monitor. The power was still working as well and the store looks to be relatively clean.
