The Headlines

1988- Randy Travis is the hottest star in Country Music!  He takes home three trophies during the 23rd annual Academy Of Country Music awards.  Randy is named Top Male Vocalist and "Forever And Ever, Amen" takes Single Record and Song of the Year.

1987- Restless Heart heads to #1 with the popular wedding song of the year, "I'll Still Be Loving You."

1981- "Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground"  by Willie Nelson goes to #1 on the Billboard country chart.  Willie claims that it's one his favorite songs he's ever written.

1955- Johnny Cash has an unscheduled audition with producer Sam Phillips at Sun Records in Memphis.  Johnny sings mostly religious songs and Sam is not impressed.  However, after some convincing to sing different material that would sell, Johnny comes up with an original sound and style.  Sam likes what Johnny has developed, and the young hopeful is invited back to record at Sun studios.
