Should Unmarried Couples Buy A Dog Together

Here is the "daily dilemma" for Wednesday, January, 11th, 2012:

"My girlfriend and I have been dating for two years, and she wants use to get a dog that we'll own 'together.' As much as I want a dog, I'm not sure I want to get one with her. Things may not work out between us, and I don't want to get into an ugly custody battle over who gets the dog if we break up. Should couples be married before they decide to get a dog together? Did anyone get a dog with a girlfriend or boyfriend, and it didn't work out?"
