It is the time of year when many people are getting ready to plan for their big day. Kevin Richards gave you a list of excellent first dance songs. Richie Phillips asked what entrée you would like at a reception.

People might even be thinking a little more about getting married with the recent wedding of Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott, over the weekend in the Albany area.

When most people get married, they’re usually looking for a place to hold their reception. There are numerous places in the Albany area.

If you ask five different people about where they had their reception, you’ll probably get five different answers. Here’s a list of some of those Albany area wedding reception establishments.

1) Mallozzi’s

Mallozzi's is located at 1930 Curry Road in Schenectady.  You can call them at 355-0340. They can accommodate you with several wedding packages. WGNA's very own Sean McMaster married his bride Andrea there.

2) Glen Sander’s Mansion

The Glen Sander’s Mansion is in Scotia at 1 Glen Avenue. Their phone number is 518-374-7262. During the warmer weather months, they also have a beautiful outdoor that you can use.

3) Michael’s Banquet House

Michael's Banquet House is at 1019 New Loudon Road (Route 9), in Cohoes. Give them a call at 518-785-8524.

4) Franklin Plaza Ballroom

The Franklin Plaza Ballroom is in Troy at Fourth and Grand Streets. It's a former bank turned into a very beautiful reception facility. The vault is now a coat check. Their Phone number is 518-270-9622.

5) Canfield Casino

The Canfield Casino is situated in Congress Park in Saratoga Springs. One thing to keep in mind, is The Canfield Casino is only booked for one event per day and must be booked through the Casino Coordinator only. You can call them at 518-587-3550 ext. 2471.

There are other places that you can check out like several of the VFWs and Elks lodges can rent out their halls. Some of the bigger hotels, like the Albany Marriott and Albany Holiday Inn, both on Wolf Road in Colonie, have wedding reception capabilities.

There are numerous fire departments that also have pretty nice reception facilities, like The Fuller Road and Shaker Road - Loudonville Fire Departments. One more idea could a golf course with a country club like Winding Brook Country Club in Valatie.

Keep in mind there are many factors for the reception, like location, how many guests attending, what kind of menu choice for dinner and of course, the cost. Photographers may be something you'll need to look into.

Between Kevin, Richie and myself, I’ll bet that we’ve all hosted weddings in almost every venue in the Albany area, and we still do. If you need music for your big day, you can contact one of your favorite WGNA djs for covering any or all of your musical needs.
