True Hero

An off-duty sergeant with the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office made a daring rescue on Wednesday after he saw two people struggling with the strong currents while attempting to swim in the Hudson River.  Selflessly, he jumped into the water to assist the two, and today, he's being hailed a hero - and rightfully so.

 Patrol Sergeant Pasquale “Rocky” Girard

According to a Facebook post by the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office, Patrol Sergeant Pasquale Girard was off-duty on Wednesday when he noticed two people struggling against the Hudson River current in Corinth, NY.

Pasquale, whose nickname is "Rocky",  first called 911 to get some backup, then, while channeling his inner Italian Stallion, selflessly jumped into the river in his plain clothes to assist the struggling swimmers.

The local Sheriff's praised this man's work

While Rocky was helping the couple in the water, he received assistance from his Saratoga County brothers, when Deputy Nikk Milligan - in uniform-  jumped into the water to assist.

Two lives were saved earlier today due to the heroic acts of one of our off-duty members and a Saratoga County Sheriff's Deputy. Patrol Sergeant Pasquale “Rocky” Girard was driving across the Corinth bridge and noticed two swimmers in the Hudson River in distress struggling with the strong currents. Sgt. Girard called 911 and jumped into the river to assist.  Deputy Nikk Milligan arrived while the swimmers were still in distress and entered the water in his uniform to help. The swimmers were exhausted and unable to swim to shore without aid. Thank you, Sgt. Girard and Deputy Milligan for your bravery and heroic response!
