Well the summer is flying by as usual and here we are on the last weekend of July already and one of the most important months of the year is almost over. National Ice Cream Month!

It was back in 1984 when President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation that authorized a Senate resolution put forth by the Congress that designated the month of July 1984 as National Ice Cream Month. It makes a ton of sense since obviously ice cream is perfect for combatting the July heat and I bet the President was an ice cream lover too. He recognized that ice cream is enjoyed by many and called for all people of the United States to observe appropriate ceremonies and activities.

Although the proclamation only addressed that first celebration in 1984, it probably is no great surprise that the idea has been kept alive by the International Ice Cream Association of manufacturers and retailers which has encouraged the continued celebration every July. About 9 percent of all the milk produced by U.S. dairy farmers is used to produce ice cream.

I've never met anyone who did not like ice cream, so if you haven't had a dish or cone of your favorite flavor yet this month, there are still a few days left to celebrate officially!
