It was a tragedy today at Las Vegas Motor Speedway as driver Dan Wheldon was killed a fiery 15 car wreck, that some drivers said was the worst wreck they had ever seen.

Indy Car CEO Randy Bernard made the announcement that driver Dan Wheldon had died 2 hours after the race in Las Vegas had finished up.

IndyCar is very sad to announce that Dan Wheldon has passed away from unsurvivable injuries. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family today. IndyCar, its drivers and owners, have decided to end the race. In honor of Dan Wheldon, the drivers have decided to do a five-lap salute to in his honor.

Wheldon was 33 years old and just this year won his second Indianapolis 500. Three other drivers were hurt as a result of the 15 car wreck, but no where near the severity of Wheldon. Indy and NASCAR driver Danica Patrick said that it looked like a scene from a movie. Drivers were hitting high speeds of nearly 225mph and were cautious of the tracks high speeds.
