August 6, 2012 It was fun because we took my father-in-law, Warren. It was short because it was probably the hottest day of the year. But none of us regretted it, because it's an annual tradition to go to the Saratoga Race track. Here are a few shots from Saturday, August 4th:

July 22, 2011 Today the 143rd meet at Saratoga opens and it's going to be hot one! In the middle of this heat wave we are expecting to see temperatures in the 90s again today. Despite the heat NYRA is expecting to have a big opening day.
When you go to a NASCAR race, celebrities are always around. The drivers themselves are stars. The tracks schedule giants from a variety of fields to officially participate in pre-race festivities. Sometimes you never know who you might see or who might show up. This week NASCAR is racing at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California just a short distance from Hollywood. What stars are going to be there?

The local racing pre-season thunder continues this weekend with the annual Fonda Speedway car show through Sunday. Car shows provide the opportunity for fans to meet drivers, maybe get some autographs, see the new cars before the racing season begins.
As I'm writing this, there is still snow on the ground, but the local racing season here in the Northeast is not too far away. One sign is when the race car shows come to town.
This weekend the only racing for NASCAR's three national touring series is at Darlington for the Camping World Truck Series. Both the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series drivers have an open week. So what do the drivers do with a weekend off?
