The freezing temperatures of January have frozen lakes in the area and winter motorsports enthusiasts are ready for the annual ice racing season to begin.

The area ice racing season is very short so fans love when winter's chill arrives and lingers long enough so that race tracks can be built on lakes in the region. The season lasts from mid-January until early March, weather permitting.

There are both car races and motorcycle races being held on the ice. The Adirondack Motor Enthusiast Club will be hosting the first car racing of the ice season on Lake Algonquin in Wells today on a road race-like course.

Also today, the Electric City Riders are hosting motorcycle and quad 4-wheeler races at Brown's Beach on Saratoga Lake as part of the Winter Celebration on Saratoga Lake.
