Here's another victory in the power of social media to do good.

Tuesday is National Amber Alert Awareness Day, so Facebook has announced AMBER Alerts will now appear in news feeds:

The new initiative will deliver AMBER Alerts to people’s News Feeds in targeted search areas after a child has been abducted and the National Center has issued an alert.

These alerts, which include photographs and other details about the missing child, are shown on mobile and desktop. People can share the alert with friends and link directly to the National Center’s missing child poster, which always has the most up-to-date information about the case.

Facebook has often been used a resource in the cases of missing children, with people sharing articles about the kids. There have been plenty of instances of kids being returned after someone else saw a picture of post involving the missing children.

The AMBER Alert system has helped bring more than 725 kids back to safety since it was introduced in 1996.
