A new Good Year commercial starring Dale Earnhardt, Jr. debuted today during the Daytona 500 and features a truck with ties to the Capital Region.

It was a big story when Dale Jr. announced his retirement last year, and a new commercial that debuted today during the biggest NASCAR race of the year will chronicles his journey from young racer to his new role as a NASCAR commentator. And the Good Year commercial features the same truck he owned when he was younger.

According to the Times Union, Larry Jones, who moved from Latham to Statesville, North Carolina 10 years ago, was selling his blue 1989 Chevy S-10 pick-up on Craigslist when he got a call from someone looking for the truck for a Good Year commercial. It's the exact same truck Dale Sr. bought for his son for his first car. Dale Jr.'s original truck was actually brown, but Good Year's color is blue so that is what they used in the commercial.
