Sometimes something as simple as a phone call or knocking on the door of an elderly neighbor or relative in the bitter cold weather we are experiencing can literally save a life. It only takes a moment to check in and make sure that your elderly neighbors or relatives are doing alright. Don't be bashful, check in on them and say "hi", they will love the company and while you're there ask them if they have enough to eat, or better yet bring over a plate from home for them. Make sure they have enough heat as well, because some do not have enough of either food or heat due to fixed incomes. If you feel that an elderly neighbor may be in danger if they remain alone, ask them to come over and spend some time at your place until the temperature rises a little. You will be a great Samaritan, you will sleep better knowing you helped and I bet you that you will have a new very appreciative friend for life.
