VIDEO: NY Candidate for Gov. Lee Zeldin Attacked at Campaign Stop
Republican candidate for Governor and current NY Congressman Lee Zeldin was attacked while giving a speech at a campaign stop near Rochester on Thursday.
Zeldin was in the middle of giving a speech at an outdoor event at a VFW in Monroe County when a man walked up on stage, yelled a few words and, according to witnesses, pulled a blade on the candidate. The two tussled and Zeldin was pulled to the floor by the man, who was eventually subdued by AMVETS National Director Joe Chennelly, himself a candidate for New York State Assembly.
Zeldin was not hurt in the attack and continued with his remarks after the man was taken away. The attacker's identity has not yet been released, but was arrested by Monroe County Sheriffs.
