It has been a long time in the making but as of Saturday, Troy has a new park on Seventh Avenue in the North Central neighborhood. It has everything including something to keep the kids cool during the hot summer months. It has two basketball courts, playground equipment, a pavilion, new fencing, bathrooms, and a splash pad according to News 10 ABC.

There is a special touch that has been added to the park too. The new park is named after longtime resident Geneva Pompey. Throughout her time living across the street from the park, she has helped support events held there for over fifty years. She is considered the neighborhood's mother figure. A petition with nineteen hundred signatures made the renaming of the park possible. It is called Geneva Pompey Park.

Troy Mayor Patrick Madden who was at the opening of the park on Saturday said

We are thrilled to officially open the newly-renovated 7th Avenue Park to the public this summer. Upgrades and improvements to the park will provide countless opportunities for safe activities for our community’s children and young people to enjoy for years to come.

This project was delayed for a very long time. It was started in early 2019 with construction and renovations in full swing. But the pandemic made them have to halt work on the new park. After completion, the improvements with the basketball courts, splash pad, playground equipment, bathroom facilities, the pavilion, and new fencing cost was about one point two million dollars. The park renovations and upgrades were funded by the city and state, the One Troy Initiative, Senator Neil Breslin, and Assemblyman John McDonald.
