Trace Adkins Lends a Hand to the Homeless
Despite his family’s personal struggle in rebuilding their lives following a horrific house fire (which claimed all of their personal belongings), Trace Adkins is reaching out to those less fortunate, teaming up with the Urban Ministry Center and the Maxwell House Community Project for the Drops of Good program. The former ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ contestant stopped Charlotte, N.C. yesterday (July 24) to kick off the first community center renovation, which will benefit the local homeless community.
“I signed on with Maxwell House folks several months ago and they had this competition to find some community centers in need of renovations,” the philanthropic singer tells WCNC. “Maxwell House came in and did $50k of renovations on them — Charlotte’s the first one we’re doing.”
The singer isn’t stopping in just Charlotte, though. Adkins will also soon travel to St. Paul, Minn. and Detroit, Mich. to share his goodwill efforts. The program has pledged a total of $150k in funding the three separate renovations. “Especially today, it seems there are some desperate people in need,” the singer admits. “I thought this was a cool thing for Maxwell House to do to help folks out.”
“I try to do things to give back. I do all kinds of charity things. This is one that I was proud to be associated with,” adds Adkins.
As far as his own housing situation is concerned, Adkins looks to the future with an unwavering optimism. “We’re moving ahead with plans for building a house,” the husband and father of five daughters shares. “My wife and kids are all recovering. I think with girls — they kinda grieve over losing their stuff a little longer than I did.”
Philanthropic efforts aside, Adkins is also on the road promoting his new radio single, ‘Them Lips (On Mine),’ the first glimpse from his forthcoming untitled 11th studio album. The project is slated for an October release.
