Thunder, Hail, Floods, Tornadoes On Tap for the Capital Region
It's warming up quickly in the Capital Region and with the hot temps comes the summertime severe weather. Some bad storms are expected to hit the Capital Region this afternoon and tonight. Thunder/lightning, heavy downpours, strong winds, and flooding are all possible.
The Capital Region and a good portion of the Hudson Valley are in the 'enhanced risk' category for for severe weather today, which makes it highly likely that we'll be on the receiving end of some nasty conditions.
Storms are expected to move in this afternoon and continue into tonight with most of the area expected to get hit pretty hard.
The greatest threat for severe weather is from 3pm to 9pm. As of 12:30 no warnings or watches have been issued for the area, just a 'hazardous weather outlook' that was issued around 4am:
The Storm Prediction Center has placed eastern New York within an Enhanced Risk for severe thunderstorms today, as a strong cold front tracks through the region during the afternoon and evening. The main threat will be damaging wind gusts, although isolated occurrences of large hail are also possible. Thunderstorms may also produce downpours which could result in localized flooding of urban, poor drainage and low lying areas.
We'll update any new warnings or watches below.
