Despite what looks like some 'sharp money' coming in on the Philadelphia Soul in the past day or so, the Albany Empire remain large betting favorites to win the ArenaBowl according to the Rivers Casino Sportsbook.

Just a month after the Albany Empire wrapped up their inaugural Arena League season here in the Capital Region, they're back out looking for players to help re-load their roster and will hold an open tryout in Clifton Park.

The Albany Empire have had a dream season in their inaugural season as Arena Football returned to the Capital Region for the first time in nearly two decades.  After starting the year 0-2, the Empire used a stingy defense and a high octane offense to capture the league's best record and secure the #1 seed overall in the AFL.  The Empire (8-4) will play their first ever playoff game on the road vs.

Albany Empire fullback Wesley Mauia mashes opposing defensive players on the field, but off of it, he's a soft spoken gentle giant with a great sense of humor.  That sense of humor was kindly appreciated as Chrissy, Jess and I baited him into a conversation in which it was revealed how people simply butcher his last name.  We thought it was hilarious, and thankfully he did too!

I love Albany.  It's where I was born.  It's where I have lived pretty much all my life,  including now.  But I have to admit it felt like Albany was sagging - losing to all of the major cities that comprise the Capital Region - and it was getting a little depressing...

I was fortunate to be at the awesome Albany Empire game last night.  Matty Jeff and I had blast representing WGNA;  throwing out t-shirts, pumping up the crowd and hosting a halftime 'air guitar' contest!  Not sure if any of you in attendance noticed, but when the fourth quarter started and the Empire scored, some idiot went running out onto the field throwing out t-shirts while kicker Kenny Spenc
