State Trooper of 27 Years a ‘Hometown Hero’
Joe Germano, of East Greenbush, has been a state trooper for the past 27 years. Whether on the road or teaching other troopers at the academy, he's known to always be lending a helping hand to others.
As part of the “Hometown Heroes” series, we’ve partnered with County Waste, Latham Ford and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region to celebrate local unsung heroes for their good deeds and honorable work.
We asked Germano a few questions. Here’s what he had to say:
Q: What inspires you to work as a state trooper?
A: I am inspired by the younger troopers I work with; by their desire to learn, my ability to help them, and seeing the accomplishments of their effort.
Q: What's the most rewarding thing about what you do?
A: The most rewarding thing about what I do is the kind reactions people give when you are able to help them, both citizens and colleagues.
Q: What are some challenges?
A: There are many challenges in law enforcement, too many to list. Coming home safe at the end of every shift is the most important.
Q: Do you consider yourself a "hero?" Why or why not?
A: I do not consider myself a hero. I consider myself privileged to have the opportunity to carry on the tradition of being a New York State Trooper.
