The Schenectady Police have been busy. They've been processing information and witness testimony in regards to the weekend shooting which left 32 year old Luis R. Rivera of Schenectady dead. Rivera was reported to have a gun, and the Schenectady Police were responding to a 911 call regarding a man with a handgun. Rivera was told to stop and get down by officers. He did not listen and made a sudden turn towards the officers. In all 14 shots were fired by the Schenectady Police officers. Rivera had reportedly been mugged earlier in the week, and refused police assisitant. It has not been proven yet, but it appears that he may have been going to even that score with his assailants. Some wonder if he was out for vigilante justice. As the investigation continues hopefully more light will be shed on everything that transpired leading up to this unfortunate incident. By all counts the Schenectady Police Department was doing its job, and the outcome was tragic. Here's the latest on this story from WNYT News Channel 13 in Albany.
