A game of retail musical chairs is about to take place on Western Avenue in Albany.

Stuyvesant Plaza has become one of the Capital Region's premier shopping destinations over the years, and now one of the nation's premier home decoration chains will be moving to Western Avenue in Albany.

Pottery Barn Is Moving Into Stuyvesant Plaza

Where one home decor store closes, another one opens. According to a Times Union story, West Elm in the Stuyvesant Plaza will be closing its doors on Sunday, January 2. Pottery Barn, which is currently located in Crossgates Mall, is then planning on moving into that space at the popular strip mall. Pottery Barn will close its Crossgates operation on Sunday, January 23rd, and will open at their new Stuyvesant location on Friday, February 4th. For bargain hunters, the TU says West Elm has marked their merchandise with a 20 percent discount to clear out their inventory.

The swapping of stores actually makes a lot of senses, as West Elm is run by the Pottery Barn. West Elm was only here for four years - they opened their Albany location back in October of 2017.

Over the years Stuyvesant has become pretty much a destination for everything. Plenty of great places to shop, and plenty of great places to eat as well. They also do a great job around the holiday season to create a great shopping experience. And hopefully, with this retail shuffle, it means we also get something new and exciting to check out at Crossgates!
