New Upstate NY Winter Experience Planned to Attract Thousands of Tourists
A historic Upstate New York destination will be transformed to allow visitors to enjoy it year-round. The plan is to create a winter experience to fill a much-needed tourist void during those four months.
What Will This Winter Experience Entail?
Fort William Henry Resort in Lake George is gearing up for an exciting transformation. They're teaming up with Moment Factory, a Montreal entertainment company, to turn their museum into a winter wonderland. This attraction will feature music, videos, and dazzling light shows, expected to draw 120,000 visitors over four months.
Who Is Working on This Winter Experience?
Moment Factory has its headquarters in Montreal and studios in New York City, Tokyo, Singapore, and Paris. They are known for their work on NFL Super Bowl halftime shows and other high-profile events. They are excited to bring the winter experience and their expertise to the Lake George Region.
What Is Planned For The Lake George Region Winter Experience?
According to the Glens Falls Chronicle, in a Zoom interview representatives from Moment Factory said they are planning an “innovative, outdoor winter-themed multimedia attraction” meant to evoke “nostalgia” for such experiences as “the crackle of the fire on a cold day.”
A Rendering Depicts The Possible Areas of This Winter Experience
This is just a rendering intended to discuss possible areas of the experience. Each area or zone is depicted by a number.
Zone 1: A Virtual Chalet, where “shadowy figures play a joyful folk tune as guests enjoy the show and share the warmth of the fire.”
Zone 2: The First Snow, “millions of mini lasers light the way, evoking that magical moment when the first snow of the season begins to fall.”
Zone 3: The Full Moon, “a luminous installation…seen from all corners of the site, but up close its majesty truly comes to life.”
Zone 4: The Forest: “Scenography evokes the feeling of a snowy forest. As visitors weave through the trees, moving lights beckon them to discover.
Zone 5: The Campfire: “Fire and lights dance,” with “digital campfire and immersive lighting”.
Fort William Henry will lease museum space to the Warren County Winter Coalition, which will work with Moment Factory. If things progress smoothly, approval could come in September, allowing the attraction to open in December.
