School is officially in-session in the Capital Region!

This doesn't just apply to grade school students from kindergarten through 12 grade, though. College students come from near, and far, to attend the multiple colleges and universities in the Capital Region, and begin preparing themselves for their next chapter of their lives.

Of the colleges in the Capital Region, however, which ones are considered the best?

That question was answered on Wednesday, when ABC News 10 in Albany reported that the U.S. News and World Report had released their official rankings of colleges and universities for the 2022-23 school year. The list had hundreds of institutions included in it, and nine of them are here in the Capital Region.

So, back to the question above: which local area institution is, as Tina Turner once sang, better than all the rest?

To answer this question, the U.S. News and World Report took into account a number of different factors. They weighed such factors as acceptance rate, average high school GPA and standardized test scores of the student population, enrollment statistics, tuition totals and much more. All of that was calculated together, and comprehensive rankings were created for the new school year.

The list is broken down into a few categories, which will be reflected in the list of Capital Region schools below. The overall list is titled National Universities, of which there are 443 schools listened in total. One can choose to narrow the focus a bit, and focus on such subjects as Liberal Arts Colleges, Engineering Schools, Business Programs and other more specific criteria.

With all of that being said, here is how the U.S. News and World Report ranked the institutions of the Capital Region, as well as a few of the specific details that led them to be ranked where they are.
